Something is bubbling beneath the surface.........

Not bad. I enjoyed this.
You seem to have a good story behind this and although the animation wasn't the best (I'm guessing that your just starting out) you have got to grips with basic drawing and everything was clear and understandable.
The same can't be said of the sound which I'm going to blame on your mic as certain words were a bit muffled.
But don't be put off- there is a lot of good stuff here and if you keep at it then in a years time you'll be going places!

I voted 4.

I've got to be honest first and foremost, I've never been a big fan of your work. The fuss made over these rather simple and seemingly aimless cartoons has always baffled me. Yet, you have built up a loyal and almost partisan fan-base which is a feat most other Flash artists could only dream of.
For that congratulations are in order.

I'd seen a few Salad Fingers cartoons and had never really bothered to check out this BFM series as a result. It was only seeing this atop the front page (what a surprise!) that I thought, "Okay, let's keep an open mind. There's obviously something good about these things that I'm sadly overlooking."

First I'll talk about the graphics, which have a similar look and feel in all of your cartoons. They really are crying out for a bit of a sprucing! The characters look painfully rigid and flail their arms about in a desperate bid to convey some sort of personality. They just tween about spasmodically and un-naturally which could be forgiven were this an entry by a novice animator submitting to NG for the first time. But, shamefully, you're not. You've been doing this for about 4 years (guessing from your profile info) and everything just feels so amateur. Even the backgrounds, which you spend a lot of time "pebble-dashing" are fairly generic one-point perspective clones of previous works.
The lip syncing was good but again I must ask, do you just recycle mouth-pieces from previous cartoons? It certainly looks like it.
To me at least the whole thing looked as though it was cobbled together half-heartedly in the knowledge that this is going straight to the top of the charts anyway, so why bother?

Story. Story? I realise that this is one of those "LOLZ RANDOM!?!" kind of affairs which I'm probably a bit old for.
The fact that the characters swear a lot (Gulp!) is enough to ensure a disproportionate avalanche of affection from anybody under the age of 12. Personally I've always felt that the "RANDOM!!!11" approach is nothing more than a failsafe for bad writers. After all if you receive a review from someone moaning that, "this has no redeemable story or character development", the artist can sit back and smugly reply, "It's not supposed to! It's random!! Lolzageddon!!". That's fine for a one-off cartoon but when you try and develop it into a series the cracks- and there a lot of them- start to show.

There is always an inherent danger with artists that once something works the once it is customary to repeat the formula over and over again. And for the most part the generic staples are forgiven, even accepted, as the artists' "style". But style only gets you so far. If you were to look at the works of other artist who slide-by on there respective styles you will see where the pitfalls make themselves more than evident: Illwillpress, LegendaryFrog, Egoraptor et al.
Yeah, they get good scores, awards, front page placing, and most prominently a fan-base of over possessive partisans who, ironically, stunt the artists' growth by blindly accepting anything they churn out.
The artist has no reason to develop beyond his or her comfort-zone as it becomes more than evident that all they need to do is pull out the same few tricks for each animation and the red carpet will be laid.
To reiterate my point, the over zealous fan base can end up suffocating the artist to the point where the artist doesn't even know why he or she is doing it anymore. You know that whatever you had submitted only a few days ago was going straight to the top of the tree. Even those who hate your work will keep schtum feeling that they are either "missing the point" or console themselves in the famous fable of "The Emperors' New Clothes".

Despite all I've said, the tragic irony is that this review will be marked as "abusive" and deleted.
We know why don't we? Because a darling of NG must be protected at all costs from any kind of criticism. This in itself proves the point I tried to make about the over zealous fan base stunting the growth of the artist.

Maybe, just maybe, these are things that you need to hear.

Excellent!

Very clever and very original! I hope this gets an award!
Good luck!

Thanks a bunch, I do too but with a 3.56? Naw! :D

MMMmmm...

T'was nay bad but a liitle bit confusing. The sound effects didn't seem out of place as you said in your Authour's comments but you did repeat a lot of them to tiresome effect.
I'm not too sure what the actual story was- something about a guy trying to kill himself but it was all a dream- AAAAAAH! etc...

On the plus side most of the animation was quite good but you could see off the edge of the screen as if you chose the wrong width size on the "Submit" form . Maybe change the value via your userpage or you could add a border to the cartoon and re-upload it.

But what really gets me is that even though the cartoon has finished, while I write this review there is this continuous crappy techno music playing against the backdrop of a completely blank screen. Not so much as a replay button!
This crap music has now gone on for longer than the cartoon itself, which couldn't have been any more than 1.30 minutes long to begin with.
This is why we have a MEGA 9.8 MB! file size for something that barely scrapes two-minutes!

A little bit shoddy on your behalf, Sir.

Normally I don't write bad reviews but considering that my low score isn't going to affect you that much in the long run I decided to give a less than fawning summary:

Whenever a cartoon scores over 4.00 I'm always expecting a Xombie or Shoofly.
More often than not I'm lumbered with some lame video game "parody" or more recently Tankmen crossovers. These follies prove only that talent is not a prerequisite to making a successful Flash series and you can easily make a name for yourself by free-loading off other peoples creations.

However, you have got your own characters and storyline- and a pretty decent idea at that. It's just that I felt quite underwhelmed throughout the cartoon.
The graphics were reasonable but nothing special. The humour wasn't to my liking. The strong point for me was the voice actors who delivered the lines confidently and made the characters likable.

The big fight sequence was quite lazy and I'm not too sure if this was suppose to be deliberate for comic effect?
Also, this is quite a big file for a 4.50 minute cartoon.

Overall this is a very popular series that scores beyond the humble sum-of -it's-parts due to a loyal fan-base. Sadly, not being a fan I just didn't think too highly of it.

Darkar responds:

That's your point and a very helpful review. Thanks! :)

Great!

Everything a Flash should be: Tasteless, funny, short and sweet.
This was really well executed (if you pardon the pun).
You should definetely consider making this into a series, maybe with a theme for each episode ie: electrocution, hanging, gun-fire and so forth.
Just an idea.
Looking forward to more installments!

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, interesting..................

I actually thought this was alright, not brilliant, but alright.
But where you say " Love is free but beauty isn't" surely it's the other way around:
the beauty of nature, good music, great conversation etc are all free whereas love can come at a price- not nessessarily financial- but as emotionally elating as love can be it also turns men into beasts when betrayed and she-devils of women scorned, alas.

I voted 4 and for the review I'll give you a , mmmm let's see..........an 8.

mademoiselle responds:

I guess that was the whole point of the movie to evoke some kind of though. I'm glad it did for you; thank you for sharing that. We'll try to make the movie more "brilliant" next time instead of mediocre.

5\5!

A lot of effort went into this and it clearly shows. It was a real pleasure to watch.
I'll be looking out for part 2!

My hobbies include spiritual love making.
